Radoslav Raspopovic - MONTENEGRO

Abstract

The May upheaval of 1903 lead to a change in the political influence in the Balkans. From the point of view of the Russian policy as well as the policy in the Balkans this meant that Montenegro had lost the position of one true friend, or that the base of Russian political influence now gravitated towards Belgrade. Apart from explaining the concrete political outlook of the Russian Court on the event, dealing with this subject would include the impact this event had had on Montenegrin foreign policy. Subsequent to the May upheaval, Montenegro is in for a quest of a new political partnership, regardless of the continuous Russian military subsidiary, the primary expression of Russian endeavor not to lose Montenegro from the realm of its political influence.
